When trying to upload a PDF document the correct document does display the correct thumbnail.

When I do an Insert in Post it does not display a document. Only text of the document name. No link.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In posts and pages, wordpress will just insert the link to the file. What you see in the media library for a thumbnail is only a generic icon and it will be the same for all uploaded PDF’s. If you wish, you can right click on that and copy the icon URL and then use that in your post or page to represent the PDF.

To have a link to the PDF in a post or page, there are two ways.

    1. Highlight some text in the post or page that you want to use as the link. Go to the “insert media” and then before clicking the “insert into post icon, click the “file URL” button, then click the insert into post. The text you had highlighted will be linked to the PDF.

    2. Put the cursor where you want the link but do not highlight any text. Go to the “insert media” and then before clicking the “insert into post icon, click the “file URL” button, then click the insert into post. A link will appear where you had placed the cursor and the text of that link will be the file name.
