    Hello @londononlegs123,

WordPress.com has prompted you precisely. I am afraid there is no alternate ways around this other than purchasing a Business plan upgrade.

This is just how WordPress.com works. In order to upload third-party themes it requires a WordPress.com business plan.

On the other hand, your option is to use the open source WordPress software which is free to use. However, going by that decision will require to you buy a domain name (if you still haven’t) and also buy a hosting space with GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc and download the open source WordPress software on that.

Considering these added costs you may have to incur and your flexibility with coding and other technical efficiencies, if you feel you are better off being in a fully managed environment where all you have to worry about is creating and managing your content, then WordPress.com business plan could be a choice you won’t regret.

Here is a little reading to understand the difference between the two types of WordPress: WordPress.com (fully managed hosting) and WordPress.org (open source software-more technical):

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hope this helps.

    7 pound a month

(£84) is actually the cost of the Premium plan and won’t help you add external themes. As stated above the Business plan at £240 is required.
