Uploading a Theme from Studiopress
-
I have tried for several hours and I cannot upload my theme. Every article I read says the menu should say Appearances, Themes, and allow me to delete the default theme or Add new and upload a new theme. The menu isn’t giving me the add new or delete option. I can’t do anything. I’m completely stuck. HELP!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there,
It sounds like you are trying to install a third party theme for a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog. Third party themes can not be uploaded to a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. They are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.
The good news is that WordPress.COM has hundreds of available themes that you can activate (many for free), and they are found under Appearance > Themes
You can find out more about them here:http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
Let me know if you have any other problems or questions.
Cheers,

All WordPress.COM support docs are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/ See:

You are confusing wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG.
There is no FTP access to any wordpress.com sites. The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.Read the support doc at https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/
Themes »Uploading Custom Themes
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/WordPress.com sites have some built in plugins http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/. However, if you are reading anything that makes you think that we bloggers can install plugins, advertising, custom themes or third party themes on sites hosted by wordpress.COM, then you are mistaken/misinformed. We have never had that ability. You are confusing wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting.
Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. For that type of functionality, you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG software install running on a paid web hosting service.

Thank you to everyone. I was reading a how to on a blog and bought a StudioPress template because per the blog there were no issues with it. I’m extremely upset and confused by all of this. The blog I read didn’t differentiate between the two and I’m still not sure I understand. Thanks for the help. I did use Blue Host with WordPress.com

You can install WordPress.org software with Bluehost so that you can use the theme you purchased:

Thanks!
