Uploading Audio Files (why do some not work?)
-
I have uploaded of four mp3 files (all from the same artist) to my site. Two of the songs work perfectly and sound great.
But, the other two songs will not play (the audio player says “file not found”.) I have tried uploading several times to no avail.
The songs all play fine in either iTunes or Quick look (on a Mac.)
What am I doing wrong? Is there a trouble-shooting procedure I can go thru to find the problem.
Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Will you please provide links to the songs that you are experiencing issues with?

All the songs (audio files) that I am working with (the ones the work and do not work) are all stored on my computer. I am not sure how to send you link; please explain how I can do this.
Here is the Page from the site that shows the problem: the top two songs, the bottom two do not. http://songbirdsings.org/media/songs-by-robin/
Thanks again!

What timethief meant is that
a) you have uploaded these files to your blog, so you could copypaste their URLs (the same URLs you used for the audio player shortcode);
b) when you ask such questions, you should at least link to or point to the post or page in question (as you did now): you shouldn’t expect us to search your blog to find where those players have been inserted. These are the URLs:
http://songbirdsingsdemo.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/eyes-on-you.mp3
http://songbirdsingsdemo.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/fly-with-broken-wings-live.mp3
http://songbirdsingsdemo.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/everything-changes2.mp3
http://songbirdsingsdemo.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/turning-beautiful1.mp3As you already know, the first two work and the other two don’t. Maybe those two files are defective. Did you create the mp3s yourself? Did you create them all the same day and the same way?
-
Thank you timethief and thanks for the clarification, panaghiotisadam!
All these mp3s were created by the same person (not me) in the same way. I do not know if they were done on the same day. I do not know if they are defective (they do play OK in iTunes) but I will have the artist recreate them and see what happens.

Wow, great idea. I will try this now and let you know. Thank you so very much for your help.
-
OK, I tried this several times but no luck. It has to be a problem with how the mp3s are being created. I will go back to the source and have them remade. I will let you know how THAT works out.
-
You can also upload those two files to a free file hosting site that gives direct URLs (for instance Fileden) so we can download them and check them.
-
Here they are, as suggested:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2011/12/19/3240788//Free Your Power.mp3
[audio src="http://www.fileden.com/files/2011/12/19/3240788//Stronger,RYW.mp3" /] -
Now try inserting this in your page:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/22/805638//StrongerRYW.mp3
It’s the same file re-uploaded to Fileden after I removed the comma. Avoid using punctuation marks, strange characters and spaces in the filenames. -
Thanks! Yes, that does work. Thank you.
Because this is an external link, it does not “act” the same as the other songs that have the audio player right on the page.
I would love to have them all the same, but if that cannot be accomplished this will be a good work around.

That’s not what I meant: I meant insert it like the other ones (in an audio player) to see that it works. Paste this in the HTML editor:
[audio http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/22/805638//StrongerRYW.mp3]The point is that the mp3 is ok, and that you need to remove spaces and punctuation marks from the names of the mp3s before uploading them for use with the audio player.

You’re welcome! Now please upload the files yourself after removing the commas etc. from the names, and use the URLs you’ll get with the audio player shortcode, so that I won’t have to keep storing that file for you in my Fileden account.
