Uploading .doc into blog so it can be downloaded
-
I have been carefully reading and working with the support document for several days, trying to upload a number of word documents from my computer into my most recent post. No luck so far. My intention is that other teachers should be able to download the documents and use them. So far I have only been able to put the title of a document into an empty post; when I click on it to test, it just takes me back to the post, instead of opening the document. I have tried a number of variations on this theme but I have yet to manage to actually download a theoretically uploaded document. Help! I aimed to have this done two days ago at the latest…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is this the blog you are talking about, http://sdscaiff.wordpress.com/ ? If so, please always provide a link to your blog when asking a question in the forums since we typically need to see it in order to help.

Yup, that’s me. I though that was enough. Sorry.
I have been through support/…/uploading-documents/ following it as precisely as I understood it. Several times over several days, checking & rechecking, trying and retrying. Disaster.
It occurs to me that I may not have been clear as to which URL was to be recorded where. I think I got everything else… I think -
In step 4 of the support document on uploading, where does the URL come from? Has the author created, in effect, a draft post for the document that is being uploaded?
-
The URL is created when you upload the document. You have to either put that URL in a post, a page, or in a text widget in the sidebar or no one will be able to download it.

thank you for your help. I finally figured out the problem. The instructions start with go to posts -> add new, which was misleading me. I had already written my post and was trying to insert downloadable material. I needed to go to the post I wanted to insert the material into. Anyway, mystery solved. Your last post was helpful in clarifying so I could approach the problem from a different angle. Thanks again.
