Hi there!
We were having some issues with one of our servers yesterday. Would you try uploading the file again now and let me know if you’re still having trouble?
-
I am also getting this error message when attempting to add media (images). Help!
Error message: Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2014/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Hi there, I’m also getting the same message when I try to upload any media. The URL is http://ecommoutsourcing.ischool.utoronto.ca. Not sure if it’s relevant, but I use FTP (Filezilla) to update the themes and plug-ins since the dashboard doesn’t work for these functions. Would appreciate any advice you can offer!
-
It’s relevant.
That is not a WordPress.COM site at all, and we cannot use FTP to upload files here. You need to be at WordPress.ORG for help with that version of the software.

Hi @andiargast,
As Rainscoaster mentioned, this support forum offers support for WordPress.com sites. Since your site is self-hosted, I would encourage you to post your question here:

Hey everybody,
This issue drove me nuts so I thought I would share the solution. I am self hosted jeremeylduvall but the issue is identical on both platforms it would appear.
My solution for self hosted is here. For wordpress.com users just follow my instructions and forget the FTP Cleanup directions.
(Although this is a mystery as to why this happened so it would be nice to get an official WORDPRESS response as to why our default upload folders were changed but we didn’t change it!)(Selfhosted full answer here – http://wordpress.org/support/topic/unable-to-create-directory-wp-contentuploads201408-is-its-parent-directory-w?replies=13)
Go to SETTINGS, MEDIA and if you have the same issue as me under uploading files, SOMETHING, SOMEONE, an UPDATE OR ???? Had changed the default upload folder to something like this..
/home5/something/something/uploads/sitename/2014/08/etc/etc
I then set upload folder to the default which is
wp-content/uploads
AND VOLIA! FIXED
Hope this helps all you .com users :-)

Hey Matt,
Thanks for dropping a note here! I’m glad you got this worked out.
As for WordPress.com users, it isn’t possible to change the default upload folder at WordPress.com so I’m not sure this would be the cause of a similar problem here. However, this is great information to know in case!

Hi, my name is Jimmy.
I having a same problem when i try to upload a new theme to my website. My website is http://www.wealthventure.my
Please advice how should i fix it.
Thanks!

Hi Jimmy,
Since your site (wealthventure.my) is a self-hosted site running WordPress.org software, we’re unable to provide direct support here. You’ve reached support for sites hosted at WordPress.com.
I would recommend either searching or posting in the WordPress.org forums here for support with your issue:
https://wordpress.org/support/
Also, your hosting service may be able to provide some extra insight as well!

You, also, are asking about a blog that is neither hosted here nor using our version of the software and need to be at WordPress.ORG.
