Your question doesn’t make sense: your media library contains all the files that have been uploaded to your blog. Please explain exactly what you’re looking for.

Ah thanks! I sometimes want to re-use a file (they are usually images) or create a slideshow out of them and I thought I could somehow pull them from the media file instead of reloading them from my computer. I assume that is not possible

To insert a previously uploaded image, you click the Add Media tool of the post then click Media Library, locate the image, click Show etc.
To insert a group of images as a slideshow you need to re-upload them from your computer: the WP slideshow works only with images “attached” to a post (that is, uploaded via the Add Media button of that post). -
