Uploading from imageshack to image widget on blog
-
I have a sidebar widget set up for ‘image of the week;’ and understand that, in order to upload an image to it, i must first upload the image to imageshack. i did so. then put the ‘URL for website’ into the link box; but no image appears!!! in fact, just to be sure i was doing it right, i also tried the email and forum URL’s. But they disappeared when i hit ‘save’ so i know the website URL was the correct one to use; it just doesn’t seem to link. Am i missing a step???
i have also asked imageshack help what is going on here.
thanks so much for getting back to me with some guidance
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The site linked to your username is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. We cannot help you here at WordPress.com with that site as it’s not being hosted by WordPress.com and we run on different software. This is the correct forum for your software http://wordpress.ORG/support/

If you are referring to another blog and it is a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.com then please post an active link starting with http:// to it and we will help you.

Thanks for getting back to me, Timethief.. I have two blogs, both on wordpress.com. Sorry i forgot to include the link.
The one in question is http://writinginsidevt.com. -
Are you using some kind of third party widget re: image of the week? Also why do you think you have to use any 3rd party image hosting site? We can all upload image from our computers directly into our blogs and it’s a better choice to make IMHO. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/

On closer look, i see that the imageshack URL disappears no matter which one i use, when i hit the ‘save’ button. which would explain why it isn’t showing up.
but how do i get it to stay and be saved?!!!!

I wondered this myself! The consultant who helped us put this together told us we needed to host all images for the sidebar (“image of the Week”) via imageshack.
I asked why; I’ve been using wordpress for two years and uploading from my computer to add images to posts. But for some reason she described this widget as different. I’ll get back in touch with her and see — I’ve been feeling she might have made it more complicated than necessary????

What I need to know is where that widget came from?
Is it a third party widget from Facebook?
Is it code you copied and pasted into a wp.com text widget?
Is it a wp.com image widget? -
Please ignore the word Facebook in this sentence above: “Is it a third party widget from somewhere else?”
-
i’m trying to contact the consultant who created this. I assumed she was using wp.
If i start all over again — is there something particular i need to do to have an image in a sidebar with a title and description? one of that size, in particular, so it stands out as ‘image of the week’???
I know how to upload everything from computer to media library to widget. Isn’t that truly all that’s needed? the reason i love wp is that it’s so easy to use and yet looks so professional. I’m wondering whether she might have not understood it as well as she thought?

So i created a new image widget and placed it on the right sidebar. I uploaded the image from my computer, resized it, and entered its URL into the appropriate place.
Still nothing.
(And, looking at the new widget compared with the old, it is identical. She used the image widget from the wp theme we are using)

Then the problem gas to be with whatever you are entering into the image widget. Are you entering a complete URL starting with http:// ?
-
OK, I must be overtired. Or perhaps I had two pages open at the same time.
Whatever the reason, IT IS UP and looks beautiful! I discovered that the ‘title’ line doesn’t show up in the widget; but the ‘caption’ does, and apparently allows a long explanation for the image. It’s wonderful! Thanks SO MUCH for your patience. Not at all sure why the URL’s all disappeared before; but I’m much more comfortable loading images directly from my computer to wp library and to the widget.
As I thought all along: it’s so simple!
Again, timethief — many MANY thanks. Enjoy the rest of your day :-)
