Uploading HEIC photos from WordPress app
-
Hello!
Until a few days ago I was able to upload HEIC photos from my iPhone via the WordPress iOS app and it apparently transparently converted them to JPEG. Now, however, it uploads the photos directly as HEIC files and my website (which has no special plugin for this sort of format) fails to display them correctly obviously.
This seems to roughly coincide with the WordPress iOS app update that made the photo upload interface now use the native iOS photo picker.
Was the loss of HEIC-to-JPEG conversion a planned side-effect of this change? Is there an easy workaround for this problem? (it seems like the only way to fix this right now is to convert the photos manually via the Files app on the phone and upload the converted images)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having the same problem as of this morning. It was working fine a few days ago. The HEIC images seem to be incompatible with everything and I’m not able to use them.

Same – is it still possible to upload images from an iPhone app and have them work in a web browser?

Ah nice, thanks @wlanowski. I wasn’t aware of the github repo, thanks for the link, next time I can file issues there directly.

Hi. Same issue here. Have been unable to publish blog posts for over a week. Even if you change the format on your iPhone to most compatible (jpeg) it converts to heic when uploaded to media library.

Hey hey! Update your WordPress or Jetpack-App to the newest version 23.3. This fixed the problem you descriped in my case

Thanks, yes just did a forced update after seeing this thread. Looks fixed thankfully. Just a week blogging to catch up on 😊

Same issue. Had to install a plug in, however this only fixes the issue on web version not in the app. they still upload as Heic in app but JPEG on web
