Uploading images from the uK is delayed for hours every afternoon and evening.

From a UK location, I’m trying a simple upload of images to be used in posts or pages using the Add Media button in the toolbar.
The following situation occurs normally in the afternoon (daylight hours in US) and early evening.
Problem: The upload appears to start then stops on the first image. If left in this state for a variable number of hours later the upload completes.
    Infuriating!!
This never used to happen but has done so for about the last year.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Contact your web host.
canalscene.com is hosted by Heart Internet, not by wordpress.COM.

That site is not on our WordPress.COM servers and we cannot help you.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, and many people get confused about the two.

The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.
    (3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.

Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/

Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

Hi, great to have your response so quickly.

I’m not sure why you are attributing my query to my externally hosted CanalScene.com by Heart Internet.
I selected your contact facility from being logged into https://xxpages.wordpress.com/, hosted by WordPress.
(Aside: the problem has now cleared after about 15 minutes.)
But this occurs on all my other WordPress.com websites.
    Eg kewbirminha.co.uk, brumcitycentre.com.
I usually log in using (email visible only to moderators and staff).

As a total ignoramus :>)I suspect server overload when the US (and other American time-equivalent countries) bloggers start using them several hours after the normal daytime in the UK. But I’m open to persuasion otherwise.

    Any suggestions?

It’s a great service for website though especially in the UK morning.

    Many Thanks
    Geoff

  • Hi there,

As this happens at the same time every day it’s most likely a problem at your ISP. You do not connect to the same WordPress.com servers as people in the US, so more people in the US coming online won’t have any impact on your ability to connect to our servers. You would connect to servers physically located in the UK or Western Europe when you visit a WordPress.com site.

The number of people using your ISP’s bandwidth will impact your connection, though. More people tend to browse the web late afternoon and evenings after work. That’s also when people start streaming Netflix, etc, and if your ISP is struggling with the increased load that could cause the problems you are describing.

Have you checked if you have any trouble loading other sites at that time of day?

Please go to http://www.speedtest.net/ in the morning and check your connection speed. Then do the same in the afternoon/evening. If you see a significant difference in connection speed, that confirms the issue is with your ISP.

One thing you can try next time this happens is to disconnect your modem/router from the powers source for a few seconds to reset it. If the problem is at your ISP it might not make a difference, but it’s worth a shot.

    Hi

Many thanks for taking the time to explain the way things work.
I will try some tests as you suggest and also contact my ISP, which is Hyperoptic, with up and down speeds of around 100 megabits/sec whenever I’ve tested it but will do so again today as you suggest.

Am I right in thinking that Bandwidth of a server can be used up by heavy traffic even with a high measured connection speed?

    Best Wishes
    Geoff

  • If too many people are connecting to the same server that can cause issues, yes. But the highest volume traffic we’ve ever had was around the US elections last year and there were no issues caused by that, so it’s unlikely to be the problem here. Our systems team also constantly monitor this.

    Thank you.

I’ll contact my ISP about it.

Keep up the good work, I’m a big fan.

Best Wishes to all your team.
