Uploading Media (.jpg files)

  Hello. I am trying simply to upload .jpg files from my desktop to the media gallery on WordPress. When I drag and drop the files from my file manage to the media gallery, the image briefly appears in the uploaded version in the WordPress media gallery, but then shifts to blank. The file remains there, titled appropriately and as a .jpg, but the image itself is not there and I only see a blank .jpg in the media gallery. If I include that blank .jpg in a post, the image does not appear, but instead only a placeholder appears. Please advise on what I am not doing correctly here.
