Uploading music

  This probably a dumb question, but how can I upload a music file into a post? If I click on the music icon on the Upload/insert bar while editing a post, it specifies a lot of formats that are not music formats!!!

  doc, pdf, jpg etc

  One can pay for a video upgrade, but not as far as I can see anything to enable music. What am I missing here?

  Without the space upgrade you can’t upload mp3s; you upload them to Fileden (or any other file hosting site that allows hotlinking, i.e. gives you the direct URL of the mp3), and use the URL with the wp audio shortcode; see the Support doc on audio.
