Uploading photo files (Jpg) onto my wordpress.

How do you upload photo files onto wordpress? Everytime I try, wordpress says that the file size is too insubstantial. The file I am trying to upload is less than 1MB so I’m not sure why it’s not working…
Thanks for your help!

You ought to be able to upload files in two ways: by going to Media → Add New from your dashboard http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/media-add-new/ or by clicking the new Add Media button right above the editing area of a page or a post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/

Thank you very much for your help! I looked at all of your links, however, it’s still not working for some reason. I might try and make the image even smaller…

In Oxygen you must post featured images if the exact required dimensions or all you get is the gray boxes you have now.
Oxygen Theme Description http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen Live demo site http://oxygendemo.wordpress.com/
In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

Hello,
Thank you very much again for all your advice!
I’ve taken it, and tried cropping my photos to 470 and 750 pixels width as you suggested. Unfortunately, they still refuse to load. When I go to select my files, they look like they are loading then wordpress says that:
“” has failed to upload due to an error
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial.Thank you once again for kindly helping me! I’m sure this is a simple task, but I’m just getting used to wordpress.

I hope so. Thank you very much for your time and help thus far – it was much appreciated!
Just another quick question: I would like to do this at a later stage, but I was just wondering where I could find and activate the ‘showcase template’ so that I do get more of a magazine look later on?
Thank you again.

I do believe you go edit/create a page, and in one of the modules in the editor screen, you have an option to set the page from a default template into the showcase template you so desire.
I’m not using the same theme as you, so I can’t actually confirm for myself… -

Hello zigzagzoum, thank you for your advice – I will try it out.
Hello raincoaster – my file is a jpeg one. It’s 125.8 KB, but really won’t upload onto my wordpress site. I get this message each times:
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial.
Is the file size too small? At first I thought it was too big, and resized the image to 750 pixels, and 470 pixels width as thistimethisplace suggested. However, wordpress still tells me that ‘file is empty etc.’
Thank you for your help.
