Uploading photos– error message
-
I keep trying to upload my photos but I get an error message. It doesn’t explain why it can’t upload. I’ve tried from my PC and Mac, tried Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. Tried restarting computer, and re-importing photos. Tried drag and drop, and clicking through manually. It’s been 2 weeks and I still can’t get anything on my blog (text posts fine though). Haven’t had any issues in the past. Any ideas?

Hello, what’s the error message? Can you post a link to a screenshot so we can understand it better?

Hi! Thanks for getting back with me. Yes, they are .jpg
The error message says: “The file could not be uploaded because an error occurred while uploading.” -
According to this thread, they had just another bit of time where image uploads weren’t working properly for everyone. A fix was just released a few days ago that resolved this though.
Images should be uploading properly again.
Can you let us know if you are still having problems uploading images?

Another thought: the photos that I have in my “media library” (after I click on the “add media” icon)… does that effect my ability to add photos? Like, is there a limit?
If so, and I delete these images, will they be deleted from my blog post?
If they will be deleted, is there a way that I can add photos into my media library so they can go into my blog?

Not really. It’s just the same as going to Media > Add New in your WP Admin Dashboard.
Like, is there a limit?
Yes, 3GB for Free plans, 13GB for Premium plans and Unlimited for Business plans.
Compare plans page:
https://wordpress.com/plans/compare/nycvb.wordpress.comIf so, and I delete these images, will they be deleted from my blog post?
Yes they will be deleted including anywhere else on your blog where the image has been used (header, featured image, page, widget, etc.)
is there a way that I can add photos into my media library so they can go into my blog?
I’d suggest using a free service called Cloudup. It allows you to store and share files instantly. Basically, you will embed the file you have uploaded to your Cloudup account by just copying the file URL and pasting it to the post/page editor. This means that the file is not uploaded to your site’s Media Library directly therefore it will not use up any space there.
You’ll need to create a Cloudup account and you can do that for free at http://cloudup.com.
Here’s the support page on embedding media with Cloudup:

Anything else I can try?
Staff will need to check on this so I added the modlook tag to call their attention. Please wait for their reply

I ended up just starting a new blog. I think it was because I reached the photo limit. Thanks!

Glad you got it sorted.
Don’t forget that WordPress.com Premium solves this issue as well with more storage space:
Also, I would encourage you to make sure you are resizing your images prior to uploading. 3GB is space for thousands and thousands of web-sized images.
