Uploading Pics to Sidebar?
-
I’m utilizing WordPress to create an Author site as a place where folks who read my fiction can come and connect with me on the web. I’d like to have a link somewhere in my sidebar with a picture of my most recent novel. Ideally, a reader could click on that novel cover and be taken to a place where they can purchase that book.
I’m not interested in setting up an affiliate link, just a graphical highlight with an imbedded link. I’m not an experienced html or CSS coder, and I’m wondering how to do something like that in WP. As far as I can tell, I can’t even seem to upload a picture into a sidebar widget.
Can anyone help?

okay, in my opinion.. why not setting it up in a widget.
upload the photo in a hosting website like photobucket and then put the link of where they can buy it?uhm.. get it?

First, upload a picture of the cover to Imageshack.us – a great free image hosting site. Remember to make sure that the image is small enough to fit in your sidebar.
Second, drag a text widget into your sidebar, open it and enter this code:
<a href="ENTER LINK TO YOUR BOOK HERE" target="_blank"><img src="" alt=""></a>Go back to Imageshack.us and copy the URL next to ‘Direct link to image’ and add it to your html code in your widget, as shown here.
<a href="ENTER LINK TO YOUR BOOK HERE" target="_blank"><img src="PASTE URL HERE" alt="BUY INSERT TITLE OF BOOK HERE"></a>The ‘alt’ text isn’t necessary, but you might want to use it. If the image fails to load for whatever reason, the ‘alt’ text will be displayed instead, so at least your user still knows what the link will do!
If you have any problems, please come back.

No need to use a hosting site. Upload an image by editing (or creating) a post or a page, and using the “Upload” form. Once you’ve uploaded the picture, you get to the “Browse” tab.
In your dashboard, select “Manage -> Uploads”. Your pic should show up there. Click it; when you get to its properties, copy its URL from the text box.
Now insert it in a widget as explained above, placing the picture’s URL into the ‘src’ parameter:
<a href="ENTER LINK TO YOUR BOOK HERE"><img src="PASTE URL HERE" alt="BUY INSERT TITLE OF BOOK HERE"></a>
