Uploading special character to use as colophon

Is there a way to upload an icon from Word to use as a colophon (also called a dingbat) to denote the close of a blog post? The Twenty Twelve template allows the insertion of only a limited number of HTML special characters. Thanks!

That’s not correct – themes have nothing to do with what you can insert in a post. You can insert any icon for which there’s an HTML entity or decimal code. Here’s some dingbats:

These are not working for me. When I type the HTML code from the site list suggested, the character looks fine in the “text” view of the post (I tried ❡), but in the “visual” it shows as an empty square. I use Chrome, so I tried Mozilla, but the same thing happened. I customized the Twenty Twelve body text to Calluna. Could it be a limitation of that font?

I think it’s possible what you described could be a limitation of the font, but it could also be something else. I did check the text of an example post from your blog at http://sketchesbybaz.com/2012/12/21/life-or-theatre/ and I see that you are using this HTML at the end of your post:
<span style="color: #e2aa1c; font-size: small;">¶</span>And it’s looks correct to me when I look at it using Chrome 23 or Firefox 17.0.1.

The ¶ character http://sketchesbybaz.com/2012/12/21/life-or-theatre/ still looks okay to me. Are you still having trouble, or is everything okay now?
