Uploading via wordpress video player
-
Since space is now at 3GB, I thought I’d upload a video, just to test it out. Since I’m doing this for the first time, please bear with this most basic of question: how do you do it? I have searched the FAQs for instructions, but find only a list of how to upload via YouTube, Google, DailyMotion and VodPod. What I found for the wordpress player says space is limited to 3GB and upload file size to 75MB. I have searched and searched the dashboard, but find no place to upload the video.

I think the uploading of videos still requires the “space upgrade” to the smallest one available because without it, it doesn’t allow uploading of video formats. There is an FAQ on this one that I can find for you, but pretty sure they are only activated if you have a space upgrade (which is now a huge amount of space).

Ok, thanks trent…. I understand now, kind of.
What I don’t get is, since in more than a year of blogging I never used more than 15% of the old limit of 50MB, what is the point of increasing the free space to 3GB if you *still* need to buy a space upgrade for video? Sorry, but am I missing something obvious here?

Usual disclaimer of not being staff here, but the 3 Gigs can still be used for those that upload larger files including images (lots of them).

Wouldn’t it make more sense to throw the video capability open to everyone up to 3GB, and then when the limit is reached, offer the chance to upgrade? By then, those into uploading video via WP’s video player would probably want to continue, and would therefore be more likely to upgrade. Those of us who want to upload video via the WP player only occasionally aren’t going to be interested in an upgrade just for that, especially when the total space used is still only going to be a fraction of the free space available.

Something to repeat to staff for sure. I am not sure if the video player works if you have the video physically stored elsewhere (free service like box.net). Something to try out as well. I am pretty sure it has to be uploaded to work though. Who knows?!

Well, of course there’s always YouTube, but it’s awful quality. One day we’ll look back on the YouTube craze days and wonder why anybody bothered to watch it.
