Upset Relative

I made a personal blunder in posting a baby picture of a relative, and he is now extremely upset. Of course I immediately took the picture down (and made the entire blog private & unsearchable), but he is concerned about “back ups” and “everything living forever on WordPress”. This is causing real family drama.

If I permanently delete the blog, will everything actually be permanently deleted? Or is there another layer that needs to be purged? If so, is that possible?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You’re fine.

If you delete the blog, everything associated with the blog will not be accessible and, in fact, the address of your blog (e.g. newportwarrior) could never be used again.

Honestly, deleting the post and emptying the trash ( http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#deleting-permanently ) will completely remove it from WordPress.

When was the post published that caused the drama? If Google searched it, it could be available in their cache until Google rescans it and realizes that it’s not there anymore. I’ll be happy to do a little digging to see if that’s the case.

Deleting the picture from your Media Library will delete it from the WordPress.COM system. They do have a backup system but you can’t reach it and they will not put the picture back on your blog or the internet.

Search engines might have cached the picture and if so the picture will live on there for a while.

Just deleting the picture from the Media Library is all you can do. You can set the blog back to public if you want, any damage has already been done.

  • Ah, @auxclass, good call regarding the media library. Should have mentioned that.
