Urgen: How can I get my disappearing links back!
-
When I logged on today to make a new post i found that my blogroll link had all vanished> I had put so much work into them before setting up my blog and now they are gone. I had no copy assuming that my wordpress data was secure. Is there someway to get my links restored asap?
Please please someone help. Yes I am a grown woman who actually shed a few tears over this because I had worked so hard and to have this happen is just totally unfair!

No one blogger’s problems are more urgent than another when it comes to posting to the forum. It’s only a blog and there are wordpress.com system back-ups.
If you posted those links into your Blogroll they can be retrieved. If you assigned each link to a category and then placed your Links widget in your sidebar they will display. understanding blogrolls, links and categories
If you have done that properly and still have problems you can contact support http://wordpress.com/contact-support/
Once you do so note that Mark is in the UK and is 8 hours ahead of us on the clock. He will get to your urgent matter as soon as he can. Breathe and relax – it’s not the end of the world. It can and will be fixed. Also note that no one on earth can help you if you do not provide a link to your blog. You have not linked your username to your blog and I suggest that you do.
We all have two profiles at wordpress.com. One on our blogs and one here in the forum.
Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog -> Users -> Profile
In the right hand column locate “Website” and type in the link to your wordpresss.com blog example: http://myblog.wordpress.comLinking your username to your wp.com blog in the forum
(1) Go up to the top right hand corner of this forum page and look for “Welcome, sondan ! View your profile” and click “View your profile”.(2) Next click “edit this information”.
(3) Complete the fields being sure that where it says website that you enter http://insertyourblognamehere.wordpress.com (no period at the end or the link won’t work)
(4) Once you’re done click “Update Profile”. Voila! Now every time you sign into the forum we can click on your username and your blog will be linked to it.
(5) Also note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Everyone in the forum can access it by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username. :)

1. I posted in both support and questions becasue both seemed approprite.so please don’t talk to me as if I am a stupid child. I hiave been around over a half a century and am not stupid.
2. I DID long in to the forums the proper way – being signed in under my id. As I look at this post I see a box where my avatar should be (it hasn’t shown up since I have joined but that is another post that has not yet been replied to that I put in only ONE forum)
3. my blog is http://oldschoolmusiclover.wordpress.com/ and I want my links restored as an an explanation as to why they disapeared. If you cannot do that please direct me to someone who can. I am quite capable of reading and have done so. I only post when i have not found an answer so please don’t patronize me timethief. You bedside manner needs work.

to everyone one else – i apologize for the typos, but I am quite angry right now and I don’t see anyway to edit my post after the fact.

(1) All forums lead to the same place and are answered by the same unpaid volunteers. Thanks for listening to the message to only post once in the future.
(2) Click your username. It’s not attached to a blog so we cannot see what you are describing. Instructions have been provided for linking your username to your blog. Thanks for using them. Being able to see blogs means we volunteers can usually give better advice.
(3) Mark will get to you when he can. Demand an explanation from him why don’t you and see how far your attitude gets you with paid staff.
(4) Patronize you – don’t be silly I don’t give rude and ignorant alarmists the time of day. As far as I’m concerned they are the same as trolls.
(5) The reputation you have in this community is founded on how you treat unpaid volunteers like myself – need i say more?
It’s only a blog. There are back-ups. Make sure that you have done things correctly. Send in your support ticket using the link i provided above http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ and for goodness sake – chill.

Just wanted others to know that there were no backups as stated above and I had to restore my links from scratch. I did do things correctly! The links just disappeared but there was nothing that support did to help me restore the links.
I urge everyone to please make your own backup list of your links in case this happens to you as no one with WordPress could give me a reason for why it happened so I have no way of knowing if it will happen again.
God bless

@sondam
You are misinforming people.
WordPress.com does have back-ups of all our blogs. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/28/backups/
We can also export our links out at
`http://mydomain.tld/wp-links-opml.php’ (You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.)If you want to hear a reason for your problems then I can only suggest that you contact staff because volunteers answering forum questions are not given reasons. We had no prior warning that upgrades are going to take place and there is no communication loop between volunteers and staff other than through the link I gave you.
Take note that staff do monitor forum threads and that they are hard at work fixing problems. reference: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=15764

TIME THIEF SAID
3) Mark will get to you when he can. Demand an explanation from him why don’t you and see how far your attitude gets you with paid staff.I did not demand anything from Mark or anyone else so what are you talking about? For the second time please stop speaking false accusations and statements about me!
Time Thief (appropriate name)said:
(4) Patronize you – don’t be silly I don’t give rude and ignorant alarmists the time of day. As far as I’m concerned they are the same as trolls. How dare you call me rude and ignorant. You are the one who is damaging your own reputation. You should think before you speak and learn better reading comprehension skills. You did give me a rude and insensitive answer. It was here in black and white for all to see.
Time Thief sneers:
(5) The reputation you have in this community is founded on how you treat unpaid volunteers like myself – need i say more? Now you are trying to make yourself seem inportant becasue you volunteer and
Are you now trying to attack my reputation. I have done nothing to you and never asked for your help. I made a post in distress because my links disappeared and I feared my whole blog would. Considering I was new here a little kindess was in order – not you lecturing me on posting and making that rude remark about no one person’s posts being more important that the other. I never said or intimated that — you just rudely made that statement to make me sound like the bad guy just as you are doing now. Then when I specifically posted to someone else you replied with some remark that was
uncalled for and unrequested about attendance and not helpful or an answer in anyway, shape or form. So please don’t try to post here to make yourelf seem special and try to denigrate my here in this community. I am just trying to learn like everyone else. I don’t know why you picked me to attack, but please please please please please please leave me alone and let me enjoy my blogging experience. If is is “Only” a blog to you then why are you here? (Don’t answer that becasue I don’t want to know. It is called a rhetorical question. See I can come down to your level too if I want but that’s not me)
Again just please leave me alone. I said I would never come back here again,
but after I saw your post by accident I wasn’t leaving the blog world thinking that I was a demon and you were an angel as you implied in your (5) above. Don’t try to make people dislike me. Concentrate on your own life and let them get to know me on my own terms – my blog!May God bless you and work on you.

I believe your belated emotional outpouring is quite out of line. And as far as patronizing goes IMO all the stuff you spewed out above and then had the audacity to add God’s blessings to ought to make you look into a mirror, take a deep breath and re-think your communication style.

Typo in the url there TT:
Should be:
http://mydomain.com/wp-links-opml.php(You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.) -

@rain
Yes. In this blog post http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2006/11/02/importing-from-one-wordpresscom-blog-to-another/delete this string “`http://mydomain.tld/wp-links-opml.php’ (You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.)”
replace with “http://mydomain.com/wp-links-opml.php (You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.)”
In other words, edit the .tld out of the link :)
