URGENT DNS Issue. Problem appears to be within wordpress DNS.
We have australia30.com.au configured to use the wordpress nameservers. This checks out OK using whois, etc. Caches cleared. Propogation time has passed.
WordPress DNS is not responding to requests. Traceroute etc fail. Page is unreachable. — Worse still australia30.wordpress.com is redirecting to australia30.com.au — and again, site is unreachable.
We are on premium account which claims we have direct email access to “Happiness Engineers” – and yet this “community” page is all I can find to log the issue…
How do I get investigation of this issue within wordpress internal DNS configuration.
Thanks,
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have now changed the wordpress primary domain back to “australia30.wordpress.com” – at least I can get to the site there.
THE ISSUE NEEDS TECH SUPPORT.
WordPress DNS Servers are not responding to DNS requests for “australia30.com.au”
THIS IS AN INTERNAL WORDPRESS ISSUE AND NEEDS ESCALATION TO WORDPRESS TECHNICAL STAFF.
-
Well, if you stop SHOUTING AT US we might actually get some staff over here.
Are you aware that DNS can take up to 72 hours to settle down after you’ve set the nameservers?
Staff will need the underlying WordPress.com URL of the site you’re talking about, starting with http, to check for problems.
-
Hi,
Apologies for shouting – a desperate attempt to be heard!!!
Yes, aware of 72 hour propogation delay.
> Caches cleared. Propogation time has passed.WordPress URL is
> http://www.australia30.wordpress.comTo be clear. The issue seems to be wordpress nameservers not responding to name service requests for http://www.australia30.com.au That domain has its name server configuration correctly set to go to wordpress servers – as verifiable by a whois.
My experience suggests this will need a senior sysadmin at wordpress to nudge their DNS in some way….
Appreciate someone coming in to have a look.
thanks.

Hi there,
It looks like the domain http://www.australia30.com.au was last modified on 27-Aug-2013. As raincoaster has noted, it can take up to 72 hours for the DNS records to propagate across the internet. If your domain is still not working by the weekend, please contact your domain registrar for further assistance.
-
Hey, thanks for that … but as pointed out, an investigation shows that the name services have indeed propogated successfully. (please remember also that the registrar is based in Australia and we have already passed the 72 hour mark)…
The problem is with wordpress DNS servers not responding to requests.
This is not something that our domain registrar has any control over. It can only be addressed by your sysadmins.
Can you please escalate it to them for their attention.
Thanks

Ah. And have you purchased the Domain Mapping upgrade? The custom domain will continue to fail until you do so. Your WP.com URL works fine, but the new one will not work with the WP.com blog until the purchase is complete.
-
australia30.com.au – Domain helper does not show any domain mapping
Whats my DNS shows a problem with the name servers: http://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/australia30.com.au
Did you map the domain name here? Did you have a zone record created?
I created a zone record for australia30.com.au
What do you see at:
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades?
Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History ?http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
-
1. Yes. Premium account. Have purchased domain upgrade required to link extant domain.
2. What’s my DNS shows info consistent with my previous investigations.
A. Name servers are configured to WordPress dns and are fully propagated.
B. there is something (?) wrong with the WordPress dns. They are not responding normally.
I think this is an internal WordPress dns problem…
-
-
No, you don’t. This is what that custom URL is giving me now:
Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.
-
Think what you want –
Whats my dns is showing the correct info now – it did not appear to have valid data earlier
I still see no domain mapping here with Domain Helper
I flagged this for the staff to review things
-
Copy and paste from the myupgrades page below. I am assuming this is the right options that we have purchased. Let me know if not…
THanks for guidance and escalating.

That seems correct, but Domain Helper http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/ – still does not show any domain mapping active and it should – or I am making a spelling error
Under:
Dashboard >> Store >> Domains >> do you have an option to make australia30.com.au a Primary Domain
-
OK. THat’s correct. its not active currently (see first posting).
When its active I cannot get to my site via either australia30.com.au or australia30.wordpress.com — so I reverted to wordpress as the primary so we could do some minor edits while we sort this out.
Happy to turn it back on if there are people ready to look at it to fix the underlying problem…
SHould I do that now?
-
Leave the Primary alone, I just wanted to make sure that the option is there. That would indicate that part of the Domain Mapping did occur,
On the Primary Domain, if everything is working correctly (which it does not seem to be now) – the worst that happens is that visitors are directed to your site correctly but australia30.wordpress.com shows in the browser window, not the end of the world to my thinking
The staff have more tools than I have to see what is going on – the extra bits we have put in this thread will help the staff to see what has been checked and should help them to help you
You be welcome & good luck
The staff have a great record of fixing these things
-
Thanks for your help. I’ve chased these rabbits down their burrows on other services. First time for me here.
My tech-gut says some internal DNS service needs to be restarted – but that makes huge assumptions of how they are operating.
Here’s hoping it goes quickly and smoothly.
Thanks.

There is domain mapping for australia30.wordpress.com, but it was not purchased by the user dannydavisvandiscomau.
The domain http://www.australia30.com.au has also not been selected as the primary domain here:
https://australia30.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domainsdannydavisvandiscomau, you should always be able to access your Dashboard by going to https://australia30.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ but you will not be able to access your upgrades unless you are logged in under the upgrade owner account.
-
@jackiedana – I still do not see domain mapping for australia30.com.au in the Domain Helper – is the mapped domain a different name? Is there a spelling error somewhere – I be a bit confused on this?
thanks
-
I have checked the domain helper and it doesn’t show the domain is mapped, but I assure you that it is, as I tested it for myself and checked our internal tools, and it’s fine.
@dannydavisvandiscomau, the domain works when the primary domain is set to australia30.com.au. You should update that on your domains page, and then try clearing your browser cache:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesIf that doesn’t work, you may also wish to try flushing your DNS cache:
http://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html
