URGENT! Hacked domain
-
I own the domain name buskingseams.com through WordPress but when I recently went to switch that domain to the primary since I am reactivating the website and it has been taken over by porn, so now whenever anyone is directed to my site they don’t see art reviews they see porn. PLEASE HELP!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That domain is registered through Namecheap and was purchased on May 11th of this year. https://www.whois.com/whois/buskingseams.com
Did you previously own it but then let the domain expire, maybe?
-
The domain never lapsed and even my current wordpress account says I still own it and it will auto renew in December.
-
Since I can’t see your account, what’s the plan name in your purchases? https://wordpress.com/me/purchases

I think @darciemg was right first time. Your WordPress.com site doesn’t seem to have been updated for a few years. The .com site has the same content but stops in 2016. Then there is a large gap before the site shows up again (presumably now owned by others) according to the always-useful Internet Archive https://web.archive.org/web/20160315000000*/buskingseams.com.

Right, thanks! Domain mapping means that you owned the domain via another registrar and paid to use it on WordPress.com. You would have been paying for the domain separately on another registrar, not WordPress.com. If you missed the separate renewals on that, the registrar would have let the domain go.
It sounds like you were actually paying someone else for that, not here. Once the domain gets purchased by someone else, there’s not anything your registrar can do to get it back.

The site itself hasn’t had updated content for a couple years, but I have kept the domain renewed each year in case I decided to update content again, the domain purchase never lapsed. How is someone using the site when I own the domain?
-
Thanks, @themagicrobot! That’s what I saw too. Unfortunately, that means you don’t own the domain any longer. You’ll want to choose a new domain for your site, @clhuftalen.
-
Sorry, should have refreshed. Where did you buy the domain from? You paid WordPress.com for mapping, not the domain.
-
Is there a way to get a refund from WordPress then because on my account it says I own it and have for many years and it will auto renew in December.
-
You own a domain mapping plan, not the domain. Domain mapping is a way to route a domain owned at another registrar to your WordPress.com site.
You can cancel the plan, sure. That means you’ll no longer renew the mapping. There’s not a way to get a refund for the year, since it’s past 30 days since that was purchased.

Hi clhuftalen,
I’ve double checked your account and although you purchased domain mapping for buskingseams.com, the domain itself was never registered through WordPress.com. It is currently registered through Namecheap.
We were able to issue a refund for up to 30 days after you purchased this upgrade but several months have passed so I’m afraid this is no longer possible:
Is there a way to get a refund from WordPress then because on my account it says I own it
If the domain is now owned by someone else, I can remove the domain mapping upgrade so it’s no longer linked to your site. Is there another domain you wish to map instead?
Thanks!
