URGENT! I LOST MY ENTIRE SITE!

  • Unknown's avatar

My website, eyeofearth.co, was in development around 6 months ago.

I put the project on halt for a while and without me realising, my registrar fees were not being paid due to me getting a new bank card and forgetting to update my details. I understand this is my mistake but I was so busy and it completely slipped my mind.

I’ve now paid the outstanding balance and have access to the domain again. However, the domain is no longer linked to the WordPress site as the DNS settings have been reset.

This means I’m unable to go to eyeofearth.co/login to login to my WordPress account. Instead, I assume I need to login to the WordPress account via WordPress.com.

The problem is, I DON’T KNOW THE WORDPRESS USERNAME OR EMAIL USED. I only remember the login details I created for the actual site itself and they are not the same.

The biggest issue is that in that site ALL OF MY BLOG POSTS WERE SAVED.

I did actually have them published rather than saved as drafts but when I search for them on Google I cannot find them. I honestly don’t know what to do but a lot of time went into the blog posts and I really wanna get them back. To do so I need to talk to WordPress directly I assume so that I can see if they can trace it to find out what my username/email was or what the site domain has been set to by default? Even being able to view the site from a public perspective would allow me to find my blog posts.

I can’t find a support number for WordPress anywhere. I know you can use live chat if you’re a paying member (which I used to be) but surely there has to be another way.

    Thank you for reading this.

    Regards,

    Daniel

  • Hi Daniel –

Thanks for writing in. sedoparking.com looks to be using the open source installation of the WordPress software. That’s a bit different than what we do here at WordPress.com.

My advice is to post in the WordPress community forums at wordpress.org/support/ or contact your hosting provider, which looks to be sedoparking.com.

This guide outlines the differences between what we do here at WordPress.com and using the WordPress installation: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  • Hi Daniel,

Looking at the DNS records of eyeofearth.co, it looks like your site is a self-hosted WordPress and is not hosted on WordPress.com. Here is what you will have to do.

WordPress.com Happiness Engineers cannot be of support for you when this is a self-hosted WordPress.

You can visit your self-hosted WordPress site’s login page and try to reset your account login credentials by entering the username. If that does not help, you can try detailed password recovery options mentioned here. https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

I also recommend you take this question to self-hosted WordPress forums https://wordpress.org/support/ as the current one you are on is meant for WordPress.com sites.

Hi. I had calliebrowncoach.wordpress.com working 3 years ago but now when I try to access it, it appears to no longer exist. My wordpress account still works. Any idea why? Do they automatically archive after a period of inactive use? If so, how can I recover it?
    Thanks!

    calliebrowncoach.wordpress.com doesn’t excist, but calliebrowncoaching.wordpress.com does.

  • Hi – We do not archive sites.
