*URGENT* Mapped existing domain to wordpress blog. Email management disrupted. (
-
Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help me with this.
I have mapped my existing domain to a wordpress blog. The domain name is ifr.com.sg.
As a result of the name servers having been amended to point towards the wordpress name servers, My existing email service with the previous domain hosting company has been disrupted.I added the MX records in the custom dns form as per below:
MX 0 mail.ifr.com.sg.
MX 10 relay.webvis.net.
A mail 202.157.174.176
A pop 202.157.174.176
A smtp 202.157.174.176We in our organization are able to receive and send emails, however we had a website earlier where we would manage our email accounts called webmaster (ifr.com.sg/webmaster) and also webmail (ifr.com.sg/webmail), we are unable to access both of these sites now as a result of the name servers changing.
Please advise a solution for this? and also was wondering if the below has anything to do with it.
* Please note that you cannot add an A record for a root level domain such as mydomain.com through the WordPress.com Custom DNS editor. You must use another DNS hosting provider if you want to do that.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com doesn’t offer email services, but there IS a way to use your custom email addresses with a workaround.

You usually can get third-party mail systems to work. Your web addresses obviously won’t work now you have pointed the name ifr.com.sg somewhere else.
Your “A” addresses are irrelevant, they would only work on a local domain (not the internet) even if supported.
The MX 0 mail.ifr.com.sg. won’t do anything unless you have a CNAME record for mail.ifr.com.sg. This means you currently only have one working mail server, which is second on your list!
You can probably use CNAME records for your webmail too, and access it at
webmaster.ifr.com.sg
and
webmail.ifr.com.sg
You really need to speak to your registrar (who is providing your current email service) about how to map it.

BTW using google apps email is a good solution, as you can keep it if you move your blog to other platforms, but it will need to be set up from scratch. Also when you switch there will be a time in which emails could get lost (for up to 72 hours some people’s email systems will send them to your old mail server).

Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. I have requested my email support guys to provide the CNAME records as tandava suggested. Hopefully that method does work.
I am unable to subscribe to google apps as it would mean that i would have to subscribe to an additional email service at this point in time.
