*URGENT* our blog has been deleted
-
The blog we had at wovember.wordpress.com has been deleted – you can see if you look at the URL that it says ‘the authors deleted the site’.
Five years of work and content were there. I had tried (and failed) to export that content to our new blog at wovember.com, and was saving towards buying the guided transfer service to migrate all the content across because every transfer I tried to make was really borky and missing loads of content.
Please, please, please tell me the content is not all lost forever? I have no idea how or why the site has been lost or how it was deleted and I am distraught.

Hi felixbadanimal,
I’ve tagged this thread for staff review, so a WordPress.com Happiness Engineer will be in contact with you about this.
I really hope you can recover your content!

Here’s the thing, a site cannot be deleted unless the Admin of the site confirms the deletion in the final email sent to the email address on record for that account. If the site was deleted using the Admin account, then no wrongdoing is considered involved.
Also hoping for good news.

There were four of us administrating the site, I have emailed all the other Authors and am trying to get to the bottom of what has happened.

We transferred the domain name to wovember.com and then, after I had huge problems trying to transfer content across using the Export tools from wovember.wordpress.com, our idea was to save up and pay for the guided transfer service. The site was originally registered by a different administrator; is it possible that somehow when she changed the domain stuff across, the website was marked for deletion?
Most importantly, is there a way of recovering the content? It could be that some paid hosting associated with the site ran out… I honestly don’t know. If this was the case, is it possible to reinstate the paid hosting and reinstate the content?

Sorry – Following what you said, I realize I need to correct my above reply.
On a multi-Admin site, it’s the Site Owner/Admin (the person who registered the site on WordPressdotcom) who will receive the final email request for deletion and who needs to confirm the deletion, not simply one of the site Admins.
Let’s wait for Staff now.

Thanks @justjennifer for the extra clarification, I really appreciate that –
I have been in a long conversation with the Site Owner/Admin, and she does not recall an email confirming plans to delete the website.
We set up the wordpress.com blog in 2011 together under the url wovember.com; we later decided to self-host that blog and, earlier this year, bought a new domain name – wovember.com – and left all the old content up at wovember.wordpress.com.
I had big problems migrating content using export and import (there was an awful lot of content to migrate across and all the imports were really patchy and incomplete…) and we determined to keep the content up at wovember.wordpress.com and fund-raise through the new site at wovember.com to pay for a guided transfer.
However today wovember.wordpress.com appears to have been deleted and with it, five years’ of work is lost, and nobody remembers signing off on an email to say that was OK.
The only possible explanation we can find is that some hosting or paid plan was attached to the website and that this expired today… but even then, there was no email about this; no warning or explanation or anything and no communications that the Site Owner/Admin can see in which she wittingly confirmed deletion of the site… and I thought that the content stayed up on the site even on a free-hosting plan?
Like you say – let us wait for the staff. I am so hopeful that somebody can help :(

I see that my coworker has replied in this related thread.
As mentioned there, we will need to hear from the site owner.
The work flow for site deletion has several warnings to indicate that site deletion is a permanent action. This is to prevent accidental deletions. The final confirmation, requires that you type the full site address into the deletion box.

I see you’ve received a reply from Staff in another thread. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/deleted-site-in-error-1?replies=10
