Urgent request – need to have my name untagged from an article

    Hi,
    My first and last names have been tagged in a post written by a friend of mine 10 years ago. It looks like I wrote the article (name tagged all over the place) but I have not. What bothers me is that the article ends with ‘give me an easy access to soft drugs’, which I doubt will help when it comes to job hunting (=what I’m doing right now): if people google my name, the photo used to illustrate the article appears first among the Google images and when clicking on it, they end up on the said article…
    Many thanks in advance for your help: feeling slightly desperate right now!!

    Hi @mazinwonderlands, your very best bet is contacting the friend and asking them to edit the article.

    Otherwise, depending on what personal information is revealed, you can report the site:

    Also, as we don’t have a link to the article, we’re not sure whether it’s even hosted here. If it is a WordPress installation that is not on our servers, you’ll want to be sure to reach out to whoever is hosting the site, which you can find here:

    Unfortunately, my friend has tried and failed to log in to his old WordPress blog. He also said he contacted you in this regard.

    Hi mazinwonderlands,

    We haven’t received any recent support requests from the site owner (marcusbeltran) and if they are unable to login, please ask them to fill out the account recovery form:

    Recover Your Account

    If they don’t have access to the account email address, this will be the only way to recover the account. Otherwise, you could try @supernovia’s recommendation of reporting the content to us:

    Thanks Supernovia and Gemma for your reply.

    Unfortunately, after reporting the content as you both suggested, I received the following answer: “the site doesn’t appear to be violating the WordPress.com Terms of Service or User Guidelines, and so we are not taking any action at this time”.

    I’m surprised because my first and last names are even tagged in the article’s URL and the latter ends with: ” I’m not going to South Africa. I’m in phucking Turkey for at least a wee while. God give me strength and easy access to soft drugs.”, which suggest that although I never wrote the said article and am tagged in it, I am a racist and I do drugs… which are totally illegal in my home country.

    Have to admit that I am quite desperate as it is harming my professional life.

    I see that you have been consulting with the Terms of Service Team. I would continue to voice your concerns with them, for they are in charge of reviewing your complaint. We do not discuss these type of issues in the public forums.

    If your friend is having issues accessing their account and cannot fill out the account recovery form, you can have them email the account recovery team at passwordhelp@wordpress.com and see if there’s a way for them to regain access to the account.
