Urgent: Unable to upload files successfully

  • Unknown's avatar

The following error appears when we try to upload basically any file: Unexpected response from the server. The file may have been uploaded successfully. Check in the Media Library or reload the page.

It only allows us to upload a file if the size is small enough (almost up to 50kb).

We understand that we can probably solve this problem by accessing the server via cPanel, however, we don’t have the email nor username to which is tied up to.

This is a volunteer organization where there are various people at various times accessing this information, which is why we don’t really know which email is attached to the cPanel page.

  • Hi there,

It sounds like you’re using the open-source WordPress.org platform and this forum is dedicated to the hosted WordPress.com platform. Two very similar things but totally separate.

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

That said, it sounds like the file upload size may be set really small. There is a plugin that may work for you here.

    Increase Upload Limit

If you don’t have access to cPanel, you’re likely going need to gain it.

What’s the website URL? With that, we can likely tell who’s hosting the site and direct you to their support to gain access to cPanel.

    Cheers,
    Eric
