URL address problem
-
Hi, I purchased a domain name but when I type it in it takes me to my WordPress address. Does anyone know how to avoid this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi there!
I believe that you only needed to update your primary domain. If you are logged into your WordPress.com account, just follow this link and select the name you purchased to be your primary domain:

However, I can see that your blog is now pointing to the new domain. Can you confirm that everything is working properly? Cheers :)

Hi Dakisha, thanks for your help and yes you are right, to a point…for some reason when I go into my account both URLs show up – do I need both? And I can’t add Google Analytics to plug ins because one of the addresses has WordPress in it, but if I delete it, I lose all my content.
-
Yup, you need both URLs – one is the free address that you can keep forever and the other one is the premium address that you can renew on a yearly basis.
Hm, not sure I can assist with Google Analytics problem since I am not certain what’s causing it.
In any case, there is a complete guide for the GA integration right here – https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-analytics/
Hope you’ll find it useful :)

Yes, most helpful – I worked out one has to upgrade on WordPress and pay. Another question I have is how do I alter the positioning of the text on my homepage (the headline)? Thanks for all your help.
-
In order to change the positioning of the text, you would need to add some custom CSS to your blog.
In order to be able to insert custom CSS, you need to use WordPress Premium upgrade. Here’s a list of all the features that come with the Premium upgrade:
And the official Custom CSS page on WordPress.com:

If you need further help with this, please let me know. Cheers :)

One more question – sorry to be a pain. How do I turn older blog posts into links at the bottom of my latest entry, rather than have them all one behind the other?
-
No problem :) Depending on which theme you are using, the front page (when you choose your latests posts to be your home page) will display either full post or just a summary with a link to the full article.
I can see that the theme you are using (The Eighties Theme) displays full posts. The solution I can suggest in this case would be to use the more tag at your older posts:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/
Hope that helps :)

Yup, the one I use on my website does that automatically. It’s the Bushwick theme. However, there are many others that also do this automatically.
This is an old post but it can get you started on the selection of themes that do this by default:

However, I do suggest using the aforementioned more tag instead. Cheers :)

It’s semi-working. The read more link works but below my latest blog you can still see my previous one. Do I need to do more?
-
Another thing…I upgraded to premium hoping it would allow me to access the plug in page, but it didn’t. Does in have to be business?
-
I’ve since found out that I have to migrate to WordPress.org in order to access plug ins. I’ve tried to do it and I got this message “Import WordPress Processing…We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”
Is this normal? Also, when I click on the support link it just sends me to a forum.

Hm, could you try inserting the Read More Tag after the first sentence of each post but your latest post. That should do the trick.
And yes, WordPress.com doesn’t support installation of plugins. You would need to use your own instance of WordPress.org and host it with your hosting provider in order to install any plugins on your website. The message you received is normal even though it never lasted for 24 hours (for me at least). Did you manage to migrate the website?
I am including a helpful link which covers everything you need to do in order to migrate from WordPress.com to WordPress.org:
-
Thank you. I got an email saying migration was successful but how do I check? My WordPress.com log in doesn’t work when I try it on .org.
