URL assigned to media files
-
I am considering a paid plan that includes a custom domain. I would like to add media files to my site (e.g. PDF documents). Are these media files assigned a URL on my domain (e.g. http://www.mywebsite.com/file.pdf) or is it given a random URL on a different top level domain?
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

I believe any media posts (pictures, docs, etc) will be at the wordpress.com level.
As an example, I have the domain bookstooge.blog but on my latest post where I have a picture, the pictures url is “https://bookstooge.files.wordpress.com/2023/02/curtainsforthree.jpg”
I am guessing that is done so that if your plan expires, the posts will still show the media. Hope that helps.

Hey there,
Happy to help you with this.
I believe any media posts (pictures, docs, etc) will be at the wordpress.com level.
Just to add to this, if the site has a custom domain, the file would also be accessible via mywebsite.com/2023/02/example.pdf.
The two URLs would be accessible as there’s a Jetpack CDN in use. On the business plan, it’s possible to activate and deactivate this feature.
I am considering a paid plan that includes a custom domain. I would like to add media files to my site (e.g. PDF documents).
Would you be willing to tell me more about the project you’re embarking upon? In particular, I’m interested to hear the functionality that you might require (contact form, an online store…etc), I’ll do my best to provide insights into which plan may be needed and how best to build the site.
Looking forward to hearing more!
