URL change
-
Greetings,
this contact message is meant to solve an issue I’m trying to solve by myself.
I have just decided the name I want to give to my official blog (which is at kalythblog.wordpress.com), and I changed it in the options menu. Now the blog is called “Distant VIsions”.
I was trying to also modify the URL to have it reflect the name (distantvisions.wordpress.com), but I couldn’t find any option for that.I have then also registered a new blog with the desired name so it was available at everytime.
Now I’m trying to import all the content from the old one, but it seems like the XML export file is really too small (2 MBs).
Can you please let me know if there’s a way to directly change the first blog’s URL?Thanks in advance.

Registering distantvisions.wordpress.com was a bad move if you just wanted to change the URL of your current blog.
A simply search would have directed you to this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

That was a quick answer! Thank you!
I have now copied all the content in the new blog and I might 1) re-set all the parameters, midgets, configurations as the previous one or 2) cancel the new one and change the URL as from the instructions you linked me.Thanks!

Be aware if you delete distantvisions.wordpress.com you won’t be able to re-register it. Once a domain is deleted it can never be used again.
You’re better off Exporting it, (Tools > Export) making sure all content is selected. (Mine was 6mb with a years worth of data on there) and Importing it into your new blog.

Ouch. Too late. I checked the “Yes, please permanently disable distantvisions.wordpress.com” box… =(

Oh dear. Perhaps staff will be able to recover it for you, I’ll flag this thread for their attention.

7. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. Deleted blog URLs here are not recycled. That’s why 3 warnings are given and why a vertfication link in an email that must be clicked is sent in order to accomplish deletion.
