  • Howdy,

I’ve updated the primary domain to your wordpress.com address so you can view your site again.

Domain mapping is for domains that are already purchased and you’ll need to follow the instructions on this page: Map an Existing Domain in order to set the nameservers with your registrar to the ones mentioned in the help text. In layman’s terms, we need to tell the domain where it should take people (to WordPress.com).

In your domain’s particular case, it appears that it had expired and is in the redemption period between expiration and when it is returned to the marketplace (according to http://who.godaddy.com/whois.aspx?domain=cocoonhomedecor.com ). If you have any questions about this, I’m happy to answer them as best as I’m able.

Welcome to WordPress.com and please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.

I have cancelled and refunded the purchase of a domain now. It is too difficult to understand.

  • Hi Mary,

There are two ways to use a domain on WordPress.com.

One way is to buy an entirely new domain through WordPress.com that doesn’t currently exist and not owned by anyone. You don’t have to configure anything special for this to work.

The second is to “map” a domain you already own from elsewhere for use on WordPress.com, which does require a bit of configuration to link the two.

cocoonhomedecor.com was owned by someone, who let it expire, but it has not yet returned to the market (it can take upwards of 90 days in some cases between when a domain expires and when it returns to the market), so the domain fell into the second set.

If your intention was to purchase the domain anew and use it on WordPress.com, you’ll be able to do that once the domain itself has returned to the market, which would roughly be the end of September based on the public data.

I hope that explains what is going on a little better. If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know!
