URL redirect

A blog I like to visit changed from a custom url to a wordpress url (from anothersidequest.com to anothersidequest.wordpress.com). At first the URL would redirect from the wordpress URL back to the custom URL but would at least show the blog in question. However now no matter which URL I visit, the address bar shows the custom URL (anothersidequest.com) and displays a car insurance ad site (always the same one).

Fearing a virus or suspecting a cookie issue, I tried my computer at work which has never been to any wordpress site, is on a different network (of course) and even a different ISP, and has a professional IT service monitoring the network and all the computers against viruses/malware/etc.. That computer does the same thing: URL back to the custom URL but showing a car insurance ad site.

    Any ideas?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Well, the author of the site explains why:

    Change Your Bookmarks!

It seems to me that he decided not to re-new the domain, and so eventually someone else bought it and re-use it as something else (a car insurance ad site).

Yeah, at the start of the year she decided not to pay for the custom URL anymore, so she went back to the basic WordPress URL (which you use above). The blog still exists and I’ve brought this to her attention. She’s told me she got something fixed and it should work just fine if I go to the WordPress URL, but so far no go. Others have gone to anothersidequest.wordpress.com and had no troubles. I can only get there if I go to edit my list of followed blogs and click on the link to the blog, but I should be able to type “anothersidequest.wordpress.com” in the address bar and go there (as you did to bring up the blog entry you mention). But that’s not working for me for some reason.

I know it’s not just my laptop having a virus or malware or cookie issue or something because, as I stated in my first post, I tried my work computer and got the same results. I’m going to do a virus scan and the like just in case, but it happening on a secure computer on a completely different network/ISP that’s never been used to go to WordPress tends to negate the likelihood of a virus.

If I click the link you have above, it takes me to that specific post, but if I click on the title to go to the blog’s main page, it reverts to the ad site and the custom URL. A right click to look at the title link properties shows it directs to anothersidequest.wordpress.com not the custom URL.

I could understand the custom URL getting bought by an ad site, it happens all the time, but a WordPress URL? And again, she’s said it’s still active and under her account.

Very confusing. I don’t know what is causing this and would like to be able to view my friend’s posts.

I don’t know what happened, but the .wordpress link seems to work properly now.
