URL Redirect and Permalinks

  Hello,

  I’ve been helping out with this site and recently we’ve purchased our own server and a new URL.

  We would like to redirect the WordPress URL without the content – just a basic redirect. The new site has a completely new layout, etc.

  I have found the directions on where to redirect, but it says the URLs must have the same permalinks (the new one is set up as day and name).

  So, if someone finds a link to the old site and clicks on it, will the URL redirect just take them directly to the home page of the new site? Or, if they enter in the old home page URL, will they automatically be redirected to the new site? We only want it redirected to the home page.
