URL Redirect Assistance

    Hello. I signed up to host my website via HostClearly. They did the transfer from .com to .org for me, but they keep telling me they have been waiting on WordPress for the URL redirect even though I paid them for this service. I would like http://www.emilyladau.wordpress.com to redirect to http://www.wordsiwheelby.com. I was hoping a happiness engineer might see this to help move the process along. Thank you very much!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    @emilyladau – you want the site redirect – $ 13.- / year – that will give you a 301 redirect – moved permanently

    Thanks, but is that to say I’ve been misled by my hosting company? Can hosting companies not work with WordPress to do the redirect for me?

    All redirects need to be done at the URL you want to redirect – in this case emilyladau.wordpress.com. to send traffic to wordsiwheelby.com.

    If this were not the case then someone that liked your traffic could put some sort of “traffic come here” redirect and steal all your traffic – that would make the internet a mess.

    And since there is a small charge for the redirect you need to authorize it, WordPress.COM does not send bills. The charge is to cover the special handling required since your base blog here was no charge to you.

    If you were doing a redirect with a custom domain name (as I do for a domain not related to WordPress.COM) – you would still need to pay the domain name registrar to keep the domain name registered and forward traffic to a new site.

    I have an old URL that has a redirect on it, the site was used for boating Safety and there are still thousands of labels with the URL in the hands of the public and we don’t want to loose the traffic, so I keep the redirect and registration in place

  • Hi Emily – Looks like you’re all set with this now. :)
