URL Slug not staying

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi. I am using the Blask theme for my wordpress blog. This has a portfolio page. I accidentally duplicated the Portfolio page, thus resulting in 2 pages. Now I deleted both pages to start over. When I try to set the Permalink URL slug to “portfolio” only, it keeps reverting back to “portfolio-2”.

    https://1potatodesign.wordpress.com/portfolio-2/

I just want it to look like this:

    https://1potatodesign.wordpress.com/portfolio/

Any help much appreciated. Thank you!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

The page https://1potatodesign.wordpress.com/portfolio/ is the default portfolio page, that doesn’t have to be created. It’s a dynamic page, not a static page, that will automatically display all published portfolio projects. The other page you mentioned is a static page.

The reason that you can’t create a page with the slug “portfolio” instead of “portfolio-2” is that the former exists by default on the Blask theme. Since two pages cannot have the same slug, a number is appended when one attempts to create a page with the same slug as an existent page.

I realized I permanently trashed the default portfolio page. Now I don’t know how to restore the original Portfolio

It’s not in trash. Here it is: https://1potatodesign.wordpress.com/portfolio/, presently displaying one project titled “Signs.”

Actually the default portfolio page cannot be trashed since there’s no editor corresponding to it.

Hi musicdoc! Thank you for your help.

Ok, so I was able to add “Portfolio” to the Menu and publish it on the blog. It looks like this. See

      Capture 1

. And it’s a Post Type Archive. (Is this how it is supposed to correctly work because there is no corresponding editor?)

However to access it on the Dashboard, I have to go here (see

      Capture 2

), instead of the “Pages” (see

      Capture 3

    ). It’s not present as a Page.

    Good work. : )

The screen captures didn’t display in your latest post here for some reason. See the Making a Screenshot support page and its Sharing your screenshot section for suggestions.

If you want to display the portfolio in a static page on Blask, you may. The Blask demo, for example, displays the portfolio on the homepage. This is done by 1.) setting a static page as the homepage, and 2.) assigning the Portfolio Page Template to that page. See the Template section of the Page Attributes support page to learn how to assign a page template on themes that have optional page templates.

I uploaded the screenshots temporarily as a post. See the link below.

Noted, will check this out too :)

I intended to have the Portfolio as a separate page, and not displayed on the homepage.

Capture 1 — Is this how it is supposed to correctly work because there is no corresponding editor?

The item “Portfolio” in your primary menu at Customize > Menus > Menu Name is simply the navigation label of the default portfolio page. You may change the label to something else, such “Projects” or whatever you want. The fact that portfolios page has no editor is not really a relevant factor wrt that navigation label.

Captures 2 & 3 — However to access it on the Dashboard, I have to go here… instead of the “Pages.”

Yes, that’s right. Portfolio projects are found under Portfolio in the My Site interface rather than under Pages, because the default portfolio is not a static page, as I explained above.

because the default portfolio is not a static page

More to the point, portfolio projects themselves are not static pages, so they shouldn’t appear under the content type “Pages” at My Site > Site. See the Portfolios support page to learn more about portfolio projects. Projects are more like posts than they are like static pages, because you can assign “types” and “tags” to them, which are analogous to the “categories” and “tags” that may be assigned to posts.

This clears up a lot of things. Thank you so so much!!
