URL stability for domains

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m considering upgrading my plan to include a domain name and want to be sure that if I upgrade that all of my prior posts will be accessible through the previous url and with the new domain name and presumably upgraded link urls for the posts? And if I stopped using a paid plan after this one expires, will the posts from the subscription period remain accessible? So like the posts would go from the domain address url to switchiton.game.blog upon the non renewal? Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi!

Generally all your posts will still be available – what happens when you add a custom domain as the “primary” address is that any visitor who types in/clicks on a URL which formerly led to a http://switchiton.game.blog blog post will find themselves in the same place, but they will see your custom domain instead. So for example https://switchitongaming.com/upcoming-releases/would become https://yourchosendomain.com/upcoming-releases/ and that is what people would see.

If your plan and domain are not renewed and are eventually removed, your site would go back to using http://switchiton.game.blog as the address once more, including any posts or pages you publish while the domain name is active. I should note however: if the domain is removed, external links would stop redirecting from your custom domain to http://switchiton.game.blog. That’s generally something to bear in mind if you do wish to stop using the custom domain – we generally suggest allowing for a transition period where visitors can get to know the http://switchiton.game.blog address once more.

There’s some general information about domains here, in case of need:

This concerns how to set the primary domain:
