URL switch
-
Hey guys,
I own this blog:
http://theinfluenceofteachers.wordpress.com/And I own this URL:
theinfluenceofteachers.comRight now, No. 2 above is re-directing to No. 1.
I am trying to move all the content — images, videos, fonts, etc. — that live on No. 1 over to No. 2. Basically just remove “wordpress” from the first URL. Think of it like that.
As I’ve been trying to do this, I’ve had literally dozens of problems with not being to write servers, content not showing up, all this stuff.
It’s becoming kind of an issue at work.
Anyone have an idea of a pretty simple way to do this? Or could anyone e-mail me and help me out?
Respectfully,
Ted

Does the problems you mentioned (like images not showing up) occur constantly or is it that sometimes you are able to see the lost content?
I’m asking that because lately I’ve also been suffering from troubles getting whole pages etc (a problem I suspect arises from low bandwidth or server hangouts and stuff like that) -
If all you want to do is remove the “wordpress” from your URL, then buy the domain mapping upgrade to point http://theinfluenceofteachers.wordpress.com/ to theinfluenceofteachers.com. Your blog will still be hosted here on wordpress.com, but “wordpress.com” won’t show up in the address bar. You’ll still be bound by the limitations and ToS in place here.
Or are you intending on self-hosting your blog on theinfluenceofteachers.com using the WordPress.ORG software? If so, all you need to do is export your content from your WordPress.com blog and after setting up the WordPress.org software with your own hosting service, then you import the file you exported from WordPress.com.
