url via wordpress

I have purchased an url trough wordpress, if I de-activate my url host’s web adress, will the one I purchased trough wordpress be directly active? Meaning without having to fill in all types of dns adresses?
    Blog url: http://blackrockstar.wordpress.com/

  • You just purchased domain mapping through us, which directs your domain to a WordPress.com blog.

Your domain is still registered elsewhere, and if you cancel that registration, you will lose the domain.

So does that mean that I lost My money both ways? I don’t understand, because I own the domain that I registered elsewhere, so if I cancel that registration shouldn’t I automatically be transferred to the domain that I registered at wordpress? Or I should have been warned that I can loose both if I registered at wordpress before canceling my registration of the domain at another provider right?!

  • No, you haven’t registered the domain here. You just paid for domain mapping, which allows you to attach the domain (which you paid for, registered, and own elsewhere) to your WordPress.com blog.

You won’t lose anything, I’m just saying don’t cancel your domain with your registrar, because that’s where it’s registered. It’s not registered here, just mapped.

But I’ve already routed the registered domain by adjusting the dns adress at the registrar and that was working fine. So the bottomline is that I paid for a service that I don’t need? I want to register the domain at wordpress , not just map it here. How do I change it from being mapped to being registered at wordpress ?

  • No, you paid for a service that you do need. You need domain mapping to direct your domain to your WordPress.com blog.

We do not accept incoming domain transfers, so mapping is really the best you can do in this situation.

this is not making sense to me at all :) , my girlfriend has a wordpress site and she paid trough paypal, just like me to purchase a domain, an official .com domain, so could you explain to me the difference between here wordpress site with an .com domain and mine? I kinda lost you I’m afraid..

  • You have a .com domain name, but it’s registered through someone else, not us. You have only mapped it here.

Your sister probably registered her domain name through us.

thats what I’ve been trying to explain from the first post, I know that I have registered the domain elsewhere and it’s free to go , that’s why I registered a domain last week ago so that it was ready when I switched from .com provider…

  • Ok, but what I’m trying to explain is this:

    1. Your domain is registered with the current registrar.

    2. It is only mapped here.

    3. To answer your original question, if you cancel the domain with the current registrar, you will lose it, because that is where the domain is registered. It is only mapped here.

    okay, so if I understand your correctly;

    1. my domain is registered with the current registrar, namely ihitro
    2. and it is only mapped at wordpress, meaning that it is forwarded
    trough dns?
    3. if I cancel it at the current registrar I will lose it, meaning I have
to purchase it another time? Is it possible to get a refund trough
wordpress for the money that I paid for what I thought was a .com domain?

We can refund your Domain Mapping upgrade up to 30 days after it was purchased.

If you choose to cancel blackrockstar.com at your domain registrar (which is not WordPress.com), you may not be able to get it back in the future. Are you trying to cancel your domain so that you can register it through WordPress.com? Or do you no longer want to use blackrockstar.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

if I’m fast enough i’ ll be on time to purchase it at wordpress.com, so yes i want to cancel it at my current registrar so i can register it trough wordpress.com , that’s possible right?

  • Unknown's avatar

Not necessarily. Depending on your registrar, it can take up to 45 to 90 days for that domain to become available to register again.

Your best bet is to keep your domain with your current registrar and leave the domain mapping as is.
