URLs from free domain to own domain

    Hello,

I’d like to ask what’s going to happen with the current URL posts when I add my own domain?

Am I have to re-edit all posts, to get my domain.com/.. name instead of domain.wordpress.org/…?

    or

Maybe the URLs will be automatically redirected?! – If so, how this would affect indexing the post as a separate page with its anchor URL?!

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hey there! Glad you asked.

If you buy a domain or connecting an existing domain to your site here with us (here’s how), any links from your free URL will be automatically redirected (with 301) to the correct page with the primary url. And you could at any time switch and make your free URL primary again. Not that requires a plan; Personal would work or we can advise you if you need more features:

I noticed you mentioned WordPress.org, too. If you host a domain elsewhere and want to redirect the free site here to that address, we have a redirect upgrade that takes care of 301 redirects to the new site, but you’d want to be sure you moved your content correctly. And if you’re debating between hosting here and running your own WordPress instance, this article is a great read.

    Does that help?
