Use a Domain I Already Own (Domain Mapping)

    I’m trying to map a domain I own to use as my site’s address, but I’m getting the following message:
    ‘This domain was recently in use by someone else and is not available to map yet. Please try again later or contact support.’
    I’d like to contact support, but it seems to be impossible. Any advice?

    Hi there,

    What is the domain URL? I would like to look and see if it is attached to another account than the one you are contacting us from.

    Thanks for replying!
    The domain I’m trying to map is scentculture.institute. It used to be associated my account scentculture, which was hijacked recently by a disgruntled (now ex-) employee. I reached out immediately to WordPress about that, but I didn’t heard back anything. So I disconnected the domain from the old account, and created a new account to try to put the website back up, when I hit this wall..

    I checked the account that the domain was mapped to and the WordPress.com site that it was connected to has been deleted and the domain has been deactivated. So, I can definitely set up the mapping under your account.

    To verify, is scentart the account you want me to connect the domain to?

    Hi there,

    I was able to map scentculture.institute for you. You’ll still need to do a few things:

    1) Purchase the subscription here by renewing:
    https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades

    2) If you haven’t done so already, point the domain to our name servers:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    3) After giving that a few hours to take effect, set the domain as primary under https://wordpress.com/my-domains

    Great; thanks! I did all that; now waiting for it to take effect…

    I also need to have the same done for the other site under the same account please: to map scentartnews.wordpress.com to scentculture.news. I’m getting the same error message.
