Use classic mode as my default
-
Could WP PLEASE prevent the ‘New Improved’ Dashboard, Sign-In, and all else from coming up on my site? It’s too many clicks to get back to my old classic mode, and I will use only the classic old way. It’s easier on my arthritic hands and much easier on my aesthetic sensibilities. Please, please restore the old CIassic mode as my default. Thanks! –Lauren, eelcreek.wordpress.com

Hi there. I’m afraid there’s no setting you can change to do this.
My suggestion (what I do as well) is first set a bookmark for your WP-Admin dashboard in your web browser. Then you go there directly, rather than the WordPress.com home page. You can also bookmark the link to the classic editor. See page I link below that also contains a link generator for the post editor.
Then there’s also a greasemonkey script you can install if you use Firefox or Chrome that will force the New Post and Edit buttons to always go to the classic editor rather than the new one. It’s basically a little program that runs in your web browser that tells it to go to the classic editor every time a certain link, in this case the new editor, loads. You’ll need to install the Greasemonkey add-on (firefox) or the Chrome equivalent for that to work.
If you’ve never done this before it sounds daunting, but it’s actually much simpler than it sounds. Instructions can be found here: https://tpenguinltg.github.io/wpcom-edit-post-redirect.user.js/index.html

Thanks–this is helpful. It’s not daunting, but I have these yes-buts, like I only like using IE. I know, I know. . . .I can probably put up with Chrome, just for W/P.

You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/
On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New is where to create posts in the classic editor. If you have cookies enabled on your browser your preference will be saved unless or until your clear your cookies, and it will take you to the classic editor automatically every time you create a new post via the drop-down menu in the black admin bar or edit a post via the edit button on the blog itself.Mar 18, 2015, 10:29 AM
The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/when-editing-an-old-post-how-do-i-switch-to-the-classic-editor?replies=5Features that won’t be included in the new editor

I always use the Classic mode; I simply rue a bit the workarounds it takes to get there. Even though I’ve had the Classic Dashboard as a Favorites tab ever since beep beep showed up, clicking it usually–but not consistently–defaults to beep beep anyway! But there’s a sequence that gets me back to Classic.
I had hoped W/P would simply give us a choice, but free blogging is worth a few trips through the mole hole circuitry.

I always use the classic editor. I use a Firefox 39 browser and I have no issues with the classic editor access defaulting to the Beep Beep Boop editor.

There’s no such thing as an IE person… lol :D Browsers are tools and you can download them free of charge or upgrade any outdated browser version free of charge here http://browsehappy.com

I think everyone knows that. . .I like IE. I like Microsoft. I liked DOS!
I marked the issue resolved a couple of replies ago. I accept the extra clicks it takes me to get to CIassic. Ciao.
