Use of categories widget for retrieving archived chapters

    My site will contain stories and pictures told in chapters. See “about this site” in top picture. I want to use categories to list all the chapters so they can easily be recalled for review and comment. I will put the chapter title in categories when I complete it. How do I set up this link?

    Hugh,

    I viewed your site and noticed that you had a post there with a similar type question. I would love to help walk you through the steps to accomplish what you are looking for. If I am understanding correctly, you will be posting stories about each of the people that you have listed in your header and would like to have them organized by category. So each person will be their own category, correct?

    If so, you can most definitely customize your menu to include the categories as drop down pages.

    The first step would be to add the categories by going to My Site → Settings → Writing and choosing the option to manage categories. This support document is very helpful –> https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

    Once you have all of the categories added, you can customize your menu. To do this go to My Site -> Customize and then the menu tab. You can then follow the directions to add menu items.

    I see that you have added the category widget already so I think your question is about how to get your posts to show there. Once you add the category to your post, it will show in the widget. Please keep in mind that posts will not appear on the category widget until they are published.

    Thanks so much for your reply. You have pointed me in directions I must study, try out and understand. Tags, categories etc. Being an old school guy (78) I am having trouble with quickly picking up the terminology and grasping the intuitive-ness if there is any. I saw your site and am following it, very interesting.
    Thanks for the start, I will be back on this sometime tomorrow.

    I also subscribed to yours. There are things going on with this wordpress host I still do not understand.
    It has to do with ‘kind of knowing a lot about me based on what computer I am on’. For instance, on this desktop, I started and then cancelled a blog around my train hobby. Never got it started, cancelled it but still has my ‘trainsplanesetc’ ID??? Can’t get this machine to look at me with my current website.
    Could we please communicate on my GMAIL address which is on the same machine as my site. I appreciate your personal knowledge and help. (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    Hey trainsplanesetc,

    Just a note: it’s not possible to share an email address here on the forum. This is because the forum is public, and it’s not recommend to share email addresses to be seen by anybody browsing the forums. Rest assured, @separatelyunited will see your replies here on this post!

    I can see you have successfully deleted your trainsplanesetc website, but your trainsplanesetc account on WordPress.com seems to still be active.

    You should be able to log out of trainsplanesetc and log in to laubisfamilyusa on WordPress.com. Can you please give this a try?

    If you’d like to fully delete your trainsplanesetc account, you can follow the steps outlined in this article:

    Just be careful you are deleting the correct account. If you’d rather not risk it, I recommend you to simply stay logged into laubisfamilyusa and continue to manage your site in that account.

    I continually appreciate everyone’s advice. I updated my profile. I deleted my trainsplanes account weeks ago. Desktop machine thinks it is still alive. Updated my email address to gmail so only using that laptop from now on. I will did into categories and tags probably tonight. Thanks Hugh

    Thanks again. Tonight I reached out for technical support help. Have no answer yet. I guess I am an old school guy so I ordered two wordpress 2017 and wordpress 8 for dummies books today from amazon.
