Use of https for wordpress.com site via c-record
-
Hi,
We created a cname record to point blog.qgis.org (we are an opensource project) to point to qgisblog.wordpress.com as described here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
But now readers complain that when they visit https://blog.qgis.org over httpS that the browsers will complain that blog.qgis.org is (off course) showing a wordpress.com certificate instead of our own *.qgis.org certificate (we have that one too, see https://hub.qgis.org/)
So Question: is their a way to use the hosted version of wordpress.com, AND use our own certificates? Or is it possible to change someting at DNS level? Or …?
Thanks in advance & regards,
Richard Duivenvoorde

mmm, ok so in june 2015 the answer was:
“At the moment, we actually don’t support SSL for mapped domains and subdomains, but we are working on it, hopefully before the end of the year. ” ok that is clear :–(

Thinking about this:
in that case it would be better if WordPress.com would redirect from https://blog.qgis.org to http://blog.qgis.org so users are not confronted with this scary browser message.
Is that possible?
Or are we getting into other problems then? -
Hi Richard,
The best solution for now is to be sure that all links to your site go to the http URL at http://blog.qgis.org/ instead of the https URL. If someone goes to the https URL, there isn’t a way for WordPress.com to prevent that browser message from appearing. However, visitors can add an exception in their browser to stop the message from appearing on your site, following the steps in our HTTPS guide.
