Use same image but change captions/metadata

    Hi

I am using the same image for several different blog posts and at the moment have that image uploaded just once into the media gallery. I wish to continue using the same image for future blog posts but each new blog post will have different wording and thus different metadata.

So, let’s say a week ago I created a blog post with an image and filled in the image metadata. Now I have now created a new post but with the same image uploaded again from the media gallery. When I go into the new post and go to edit the image and put in the appropriate metadata, it is already populated with the metadata from the first blog post from a week ago.

So my question is, should I be adding the same image into the media gallery and saving it as a different file name each time? This would effectively create a new media gallery image and thus all the metadata fields would be blank?

Or can I use the same image in the media gallery over and over, go into the ‘edit’ feature and then delete the previous metadata and replace it with new metadata each time, or will this ‘overwrite and replace’ the previous posts that also have the same image?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

You will need to upload the same image with different title such that it would considered as a new image. When you give it different titles, you can upload it n number of blog posts with different meta data.

Having said that, your post needs an image that has the same subject as your post. If you would use an image just to use an image you are doing it wrong. The image should reflect the topic of the post, or have illustrative purposes within the article to strengthen the message towards search engine and improve the accessibility of your website.

    Hope that clarifies.

    Thank you.
