Use WordPress to make a mobile application?
-
I was thinking about creating an iOS/Android social media application. After some research, I found out that a lot of mobile apps actually are websites that are modified to resemble an app.
My question is if such project is possible using WordPress. Am I able to design a website, then use and convert that WordPress site into a mobile application. -
Hi there!
To clear up any further confusion, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.
We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.
You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
That said, it’s not possible to create a web app on WordPress.com.
As for WordPress.org, I don’t think so, but it may be best if you check the docs at https://wordpress.org/support/. -
Interesting.
Do the apps created have to go through a verification process at any point?Playstore for instance verify apps.

Hi there,
You need to ask those questions in the WordPress.org support forums as staff-mckluskey pointed out.

Yes, they go through verification for iOS and Android.
I’m less familiar with Android but I know that the iOS appstore also takes a fee I think.
But that shouldn’t be the problem, the bigger problem is knowing if I can make the app in the first place! :) -
I understand. I will do that. Though I was wondering what the difference is between the wordpress.org and .com sites?

WordPress.com is a hosting provider whereas WordPress.org is the software used to power the sites. You can read more here:
