User accounts for students
-
Hi
I am Ranil Peiris, A lecturer in a Sri Lankan national university. We are teaching a general IT course for about 700 students. We would like to use WordPress to practice CMS. But we have two issues. 1) Cannot install plugins in the free version 2) Also, sometimes our accounts are blocked since we logged from a large computer centre.
Do you have any solution for these two issues?Thank you

Hi there,

“WordPress” is not the same thing as WordPress.com. WordPress is free, open source software that you can run on your own server, and you can do whatever you want on it.
WordPress.com is a hosting provider. We use our own customized version of that software, and only sites hosted with us on our Business or eCommerce plan can install plugins. There is no way to use plugins on a free site on WordPress.com.
2) Also, sometimes our accounts are blocked since we logged from a large computer centre.
If you want to use WordPress.com for your class, we can whitelist your IPs so you’re not subject to this restriction. I’m emailing the address connected to your WordPress.com account to help with that.
