  Can I have different display names for different websites I own?

  The username and display name are attached to your account. This means all websites within your account will use the same username and display name you set here: https://wordpress.com/me

  Here’s more about account settings if you need: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-settings/

  To accomplish your goal, you would first need to create a new account for each additional website you need a unique display name for.

  Once the accounts were created, you would then begin moving websites you have already created over to the proper accounts: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

  Once that’s done, you can then set a unique display name for each site.

  Many thanks for your help!
  I’ve created another user account and invited that to my sites, then just changed the author on the posts. What could possibly go wrong?

  That’s also a good idea, you can have a different account acting as an admin on your site :)
