User Does not Exist
-
I have 2 users that I would like to add to my site as Editors that get a User Does Not Exist error when trying to log in.
I can create the user with the appropriate permission. They can change their temp password; but when they try to log in, they get the error message, “User does not exist.”
I’ve tried a number of different user names, email addresses, etc., and these guys just can’t log in. Its getting to be very frustrating, as both of these individuals are willing to write content for me, but I can’t get them to create their own posts, because they can’t log in.
I do have one other user that was able to log in and can post their own content, but I didn’t do anything different with him that I did with these 2 users who can change a password, but not log in.
This is driving me bats! Can someone please help??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Based on what I am seeing on my end, both editors were added correctly, and the matching WordPress.com accounts are in good standing. If I can ask, what is the URL that you are having them log in at, so we can take a closer look directly?
Also if you ask them to do the following, are they able to access the site?
- Sign into their WordPress.com account first at this URL https://wordpress.com/log-in/
- Then visit this URL: https://wordpress.com/posts/itechgear.org
- They should be able to see a listing of blog posts for the site.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

I have 3 users in total, besides me. The user who has constantly been having an issue has the user name Mr.Gavula. As I said, I’ve been able to add any and all users needed. They get an email that allows them to change their temp password, and are able to change it successfully. After that, however, they cannot log in.
The process does NOT always work that way. The process for the user, “gorkon,” was able to log in without an issue after changing their password. The user with the user name Dr.Mr.LM, also did not go smoothly. I’m not certain what he did to get in; but this is getting silly. Adding users and having them log in to begin content production is getting to be difficult.
I’ve been using WordPress on a number of different sites for decades, and have NEVER had problems like this, EVER.
The user, Mr.Gavula still cannot get logged in.

Thanks for confirming. Is it possible that you may have added Mr.Gravula here? https://itechgear.org/wp-admin/users.php
To clarify, that is the wp-admin dashboard (advanced) that is enabled on Business Sites, and aids in backwards compatibility with anyone that is moving to our managed hosting from another provider. However, if you add a new contributor here, it does not also create a secure WordPress.com account for login purposes. That is why you see that they are the only one on the list without a green Jetpack icon listed at the far right.
To explain, on WordPress.com we also offer a secure login system that is a bit different than you might be used to if you have used primarily self-hosted WordPress sites (the kind you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.) and the page for managing the addition of new contributors is found here: https://wordpress.com/people/team/itechgear.org
It looks like either you have used this page in the past (for some of your contributor invites) and for others they may have created their own WordPress.com account to complete the process that allows them to access the site.

It sounds like you may have experience with the login system on self-hosted WordPress sites, which are directed straight to the wp-admin dashboard. Do you plan to have quite a few contributors? As I mentioned, the WordPress.com login system is provided for your security, but if you prefer it can be turned off, and everyone can instead log in to the site at itechgear.org/wp-admin directly.
To do that you can follow our guide here to turn off SSO logins, which disables the WordPress.com account access system:
Secure Sign-On (SSO) is a feature on WordPress.com that allows you to use the same log-in credentials you use for the WordPress.com dashboard to sign in to your WP Admin dashboard quickly and securely. This means you only need to log in once for the WordPress.com dashboard, and you should be able to access WP Admin without any need to re-login. This feature is available on sites with the WoIf you prefer to leave that system in place for your site security, you can instead direct Mr.Gravula to create a new WordPress.com account here, being sure that they use the same email address as the one you have listed for them as editor under your site: https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/
Once they create a WordPress.com account that matches the one you set up manually in wp-admin, they should be able to access the site as expected.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
