User ID I want is not available

I want to use the name Thursday’s Girl as my user ID. It appears someone set an account up in 2008 and posted on it a few times then stopped. Can it become available to me somehow? If not, am I able to change from. Thursdaysgirl83 to something else or should I just recreate an entirely new account. Will I have to recreate an account using a new email address?

You cannot register a domain that has already been registered
There is no expiration date on any on .wordpress.com blog urls unused, reserved or otherwise. Unless you can reach the over of the site and have them transfer it to you, you have reached a dead ends. Note that in these cases the blog’s owner rarely responds to comments or to contact information. And, Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

Thanks timethief. I may just register another name. Will I have to do so using an entirely new email? Oftentimes, I’ll get into something and receive a message “there is already an account using this email address” which I would like to avoid.
I don’t like the word dot in the web address. I now understand it was generated by wp since my name was already in use. Id prefer to continue with the free usage but is there a way around registereing a new account under a name that is available? Am I able to change this existing account to a website name that is not in use?

About the username vs the site name, one is what you type to log in, and the other (the full address) is what your readers will use to view the site.
Your username can be similar to your site name if you’d like. So if your username is thursdaysgirl83 you could get thursdaysgirl83.wordpress.com as a site. Just know if you have an existing site and would like to change its address, you’ll want to use the change address tool instead of creating a new blank site.
