User Name – Dancinyogi

  • Unknown's avatar

I had used ‘dancinyogi’ as a user name under another account and would like to transfer it to this, the actual dancinyogi blog. It was the user name for my other site bikramyogane.wordpress.com.

    Site: help@.
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

    Hi,

A username cannot be transferred from one account to another, nor can it be reused if an account is closed.

Why not transfer DancinYogi Blog to the account with the username dancinyogi? How to do this is described and illustrated in the Transfer a Site to Another WordPress.com Account support page.

If I transfer Bikramyogane to DancinYogi, then I lose all the dancinyogi content and that’s not what I want.

  • Hi @bikramyogane

I’d like to clarify that I see that you did at one time have the username of @dancinyogi but according to our records 7 years ago (09-11-2014) you renamed the account from dancinyogi to bikramyogane, which is the username you are using now.

As @musicdoc1 correctly points out, when an account has been closed it is no longer possible for anyone to re-use that name. This is true for name changes as well, which is why we show a warning message any time you try to change your username.

Because of this we are not able to recover or “free up” the username dancinyogi for your continued use. You are welcome to change the username to something other than bikramyogane, but you will need to pick from the available names we offer.

Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.

    staff-totoro,

The dancinyogi forum profile, which represents an account created 7 years ago, is open, so I assumed that the username and the account still belong to her, and that’s why I provided a link to the profile in my first comment. If it’s not hers, and not available to anyone else, then wouldn’t it have been closed?

Also, could you address the following, from @bikramyogane:

If I transfer Bikramyogane to DancinYogi, then I lose all the dancinyogi content and that’s not what I want.

I’m not aware of a site transfer causing any loss of content.

This is their forum profile. When a WordPress.com account is closed we don’t delete their forum profile as this could cause issues with topics or replies that this user might have left.

I’m not aware of a site transfer causing any loss of content.

Yes, you are correct. Transferring a site between WordPress.com accounts doesn’t cause any loss of content.

    @fstat,

    This is their forum profile.

That’s what I’ve been saying, and why I suggested in my first comment that she transfer the site to that account.

For some reason that escapes me, staff-totoro said the following to @bikramyogane, effectively countering my suggestion:

Because of this we are not able to recover or “free up” the username dancinyogi for your continued use. You are welcome to change the username to something other than bikramyogane, but you will need to pick from the available names we offer.

I think perhaps he was confused. She doesn’t need to recover, free up, or change the username at all, just transfer the site. Or have I missed something?

    Sorry, I missed this part

When a WordPress.com account is closed we don’t delete their forum profile as this could cause issues with topics or replies that this user might have left.

    So the account is closed?

I get it now. I guess I’d failed to grasp the following when I read it previously:

according to our records 7 years ago (09-11-2014) you renamed the account from dancinyogi to bikramyogane, which is the username you are using now.
