User name I request is taken, but it's already mine.
-
I am registering as a WordPress user but not yet ready to start a blog. I want my domain name as my user name. When I go to register with my domain (thinkingaboutart), it’s already taken, but the domain thinkingaboutart.com is one I already own. Thanks for helping me figure this out, as I plan to start a blog later this year.

You don’t own thinkingaboutart.wordpress.com. Clearly someone else does. Unless you have an international trademark, you’ll have to think of another URL.
If you want to connect thinkingaboutart.com to a Wp.com blog, just create a whatever.wordpress.com blog and use the Domain Mapping Upgrade to connect the two. That way nobody sees the underlying whatever.wordpress.com.

Is it possible to figure out who has (or is holding) the thinkingaboutart.wordpress name?

Also when I go to register the thinkingaboutart.com, I’m told it’s already registered as a domain. Yes it’s registered and it’s mine. This is confusing and frustrating. Thanks for your help.

We already have a user with the name thinkingaboutart, and the associated blog address is reserved for them.
The fact that the blog address thinkingaboutart.wordpress.com is reserved has nothing to do with the custom domain thinkingaboutart.com as that could be registered completely separately from WordPress.com blogs.
If you own thinkingaboutart.com, you can purchase domain mapping and point it to any of your blogs on WordPress.com.
